Today I’m going to show you how to make simple Halloween Cookies. These one bite egg yolk cookies have a soft and tender texture and make a perfect Halloween treat.
Ingredients for the cookie batter:
3 egg yolks
40g sugar
25g sour cream
50g softened butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
90g all-purpose flour
½ tsp baking soda
⅛ tsp salt
Ingredients for the icing:
115g powder sugar
6g meringue powder
25 ml water
½ tsp vanilla extract
*All the ingredients need to be at room temperature.
Step 1
In a large mixing bowl combine the butter with the sugar and using a hand mixer, beat until it’s light and fluffy.
Step 2
Next, add one egg yolk at a time and keep whisking the mixture. Add the sour cream, vanilla extract and whisk again.
Step 3
Next, sift in the flour, baking soda and salt. Using a spatula mix all the ingredients together until the cookie batter reaches a smooth consistency.
Step 4
Next, take a piping bag and snip off the tip of the bag about ¾ of an inch wide and transfer the cookie batter into the piping bag.
Step 5
Pipe the cookies onto a prepared baking sheet covered with parchment paper or Teflon sheet. Hold the piping bag straight up and down with the edge of the tip hovering slightly above the parchment paper. Squeeze the bag until the cookie is about an inch and a half wide. Then stop squeezing and pull away the piping bag. Using a spoon dipped in water, smooth the top of the cookies. Bake the cookies at 350F degrees for about 10-12 minutes or until the bottoms are slightly browned.
Let me break this cookie to show you how soft and airy the texture inside the cookie is. Let the cookies cool completely.
Step 6
In the meantime, let’s make the royal icing for decorating the cookies. Combine the powdered sugar, meringue powder, water, vanilla extract and mix them until it reaches a running consistency. Then using a hand mixer, whisk the mixture until it increases in volume and lightens in color, about 2 minutes.
Add a few drops of water to get a piping consistency. Then set aside about 3 tablespoons of icing and color it using a black color. To decorate my cookies I will use these Homemade Halloween sprinkles.

Step 7
First, dip the cookie in the royal icing. It doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to cover the top surface of the cookie. Using a scriber needle or a toothpick, smooth any imperfections. Using the black icing, pipe a swirl on top of the white icing. Using a toothpick or a scriber needle, drag the line starting at the center of the cookie through the icing towards the outer edge. Place the spider sprinkle on top of the icing and our cookie is complete.
Let the cookies dry out overnight and enjoy this delicious Halloween treat.
